It’s been 2 years as a SAHM now and I’ve accumulated my fair share of embarrassing habits. Who says resolutions are only for working adults? Here’s a list of changes you can make this ’22 for a “New Year New Me”, SAHM edition.
- Switch out tissues for rags. The next time you’re about to grab a tissue to wipe off spilled juice, use a small towel instead. Yes it means another piece to add to the mountain of laundry. But, it’s more economical, environmentally-friendly and softer on your kids’ skin!
- Stop feeling bad about not getting to work out. I get it, it’s almost impossible to set aside even 30 minutes every morning to do a workout. So don’t! Incorporate small exercises throughout your day instead.
- Don’t let laundry run your life no-more! Make it a point to fold, sort and put away clean laundry on the day itself so that it doesn’t pile up tomorrow.
- Drink H O T coffee. Instead of pouring your coffee into a mug and leaving it to get cold before you get to the bottom of it, use a thermos instead! So even if you only get to drink your 8am coffee at 2pm, it’s still hot. Cold coffee is so 2021.
- Be more efficient. This requires you to be better at planning your time: limit supermarket trips to just once a week, plan meals ahead of time, etc
- Get out more. Strap your bubs into the stroller and go for a walk. Bring them to the playground. Visit the nearby park. Go for a joy ride on the bus.
- Be more intentional with me-time. Sure we all feel like just lazing on the couch once the kids are asleep. Try putting on a face mask while you’re at it. Or, instead of refreshing IG every 3 minutes, read a book.
- Stop using your phone around your kids. This one is hard, I know. But let’s be more present when we’re spending time with our kids. Remember that our kids see us and what we do – we don’t want their childhood memories to be of their parents always using their phones.
- Plan more date nights. Or days. It’s important to spend time with your spouse – outside of the house! Grandma can care for the kids for a couple of hours while you two go catch a movie.
- Spend more money on YOU. As a parent, we’re more willing to spend cash on our kids than ourselves. This year, make it a point to not forget you. It can be anything – throwing out your collection of old, stretched-out undies for newer, better-fitting ones. Or buying yourself some books to read by December.
